River Dnieper Cruises
The River Dnieper through the Ukraine is the third longest in Europe. A Dnieper river cruise travels a country with a vibrant traditional culture developed from its Viking, Tartar and Cossack heritage, a country of ancient cities and grand monuments.
Ukraine's capital Kiev is one of Europe's oldest cities. Its highlights are the domed St Sophia Cathedral and the Monastery of Caves, a thousand year old complex of churches and museums.
From Kiev cruise through the Dnieper's landscape of rolling hills, ancient forests, wide lakes and historic villages to Zaporozhye. Its Cossack Museum on Khortits Island contrasts with reminders of Lenin.
At Kherson board a small boat to Fishermens' Island through the landscape of the Dnieper Delta with its many different plants and animals.
Entering the Black Sea cruise along the coast to historic Sevastapol. Home to the Russian Black Sea Fleet, it is associated with the 'Charge of the Light Brigade' at nearby Balaklava.
Further along the coast on the way to the famous Black Sea resort of Yalta pass the 'Swallow's Nest' Gothic castle on its rock pinnacle. The 1945 Yalta Conference was held at Yalta's magnificent white granite Livadia Palace.
Cruise back along the coast to famous Odessa, more Mediterranean in style. Marvel at the grand sweep of the Potemkin Steps, the fine Opera House and stroll leafy streets shaded by acacia trees.
