River Seine Cruises
River cruises on the Seine depart from the French capital Paris, and most meander north-west to the pretty harbour of Honfleur on the English Channel.
Explore Paris and see sights such as the Eiffel Tower, the masterpieces in the Louvre, the glamorous shops along the Champs Elysees, bohemian Montmartre and Notre Dame Cathedral.
Along the River Seine are villages which inspired famous artists - at Giverny is Monet’s house and its Japanese water garden, Les Andelys in a wonderful setting below crags and green hills was the birthplace of Poussin. Not far away is Auvers-sur-Oise where Van Gogh lived.
On a Seine cruise see many villages such as Conflans Ste Honorine buzzing with the coming and going of river barges, and Vernon with a lovely old mill and medieval half-timbered houses.
In the city of Rouen see the Market Place where Joan of Arc was burnt at the stake, the famous Astronomical Clock, and the cathedral painted so often by Monet.
Honfleur at the mouth of the River Seine is a picturesque and colourful fishing and artists’ community, one of the Impressionists favourite subjects.
Some Seine cruises may also offer visits to the famous Normandy landing beaches of World War II.
