Seville River Cruises through Andalucia to the Algarve
This unique river cruise travels from Seville on the River Guadalquivir through the real Spain of Andalucia along the Spanish coast to the River Guadiana on the Portuguese Algarve border.
The cruise starts in Seville, a city of stunning buildings and squares dominated by its huge cathedral. Its history is best seen at the Alcazar Palace whose gardens are noted for patios, fountains and Moorish arches.
Cruising down the Guadalquivir river pass the Donana National Park, a UNESCO biosphere reserve, before cruising along Cadiz Bay to the ancient port of Cadiz. The gold dome of the Cathedral Nueva is a Cadiz landmark, its old town containing interesting buildings and allegedy the best flamenco performances in Spain.
From Cadiz a short cruise along the coast reaches the River Guadiana and Vila Real de San Antonio. Upriver from here are unspoilt Algarve villages and the pretty fishing town of Alcoutim, overlooked by a 14th-century castle.
Returning along the coast call at Sanlucar de Barrameda at the mouth of the Guadalquivir River, and El Puerto de Santa Maria with its Moorish castle before returning to Seville.
Optional visits may include the sherry town of Jerez, the British Rock of Gibraltar, and Cordoba famous for its ancient Mesquita mosque-cathedral.
